Why do we give up something for Lent? Some say that the
answer lies in Luke 9:23 (Jesus talking) “Then he said to
them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny
themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”

It’s about self-denial, carrying our cross and following Jesus.
It is something that is done in a prayerful way, so we
can renew ourselves in Jesus. “Aren’t we supposed to do
that every day?” I hear that question quite often. I answer
that with a simple, “Yes! However, during the time of Lent
we can refocus ourselves to our calling with Jesus.” What I
mean by that is it is a time for us, as individuals, to seek
Jesus on a deeper level than we have before. Jesus is always
calling us to go deeper in our walk with Him.

I encourage you, as you fast this Lenten season and go
deeper with Jesus, you take extra time to read God’s Word,
pray and seek what Jesus has for you! I also encourage you
to take advantage of the Lent Bible Study we will have at
HCC. It starts this Wednesday at 6:30pm. You will be
blessed! Come. Join. Belong.

Blessings,

Pastor Doug
