The world seems to be ever swirling around us these days.
If we’re not careful, all the chaos can bring us down. But
instead of being weighed down by the world. We can be
tied to our God. Hebrews 6:18-20 says, “God did this
[confirmed his promise with an oath] so that, by two unchangeable
things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we
who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be
greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the
soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind
the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our
behalf. “ (NIV, emphasis mine)

The purpose of an anchor is to hold a ship firm when it
doesn’t want to drift with the wind or tides. In our case,
hope is an anchor that keeps us from drifting away from
God. One of my favorite verses about hope is in Romans
5:3-5. “And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance
produces character, and character produces hope,
and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has
been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has
been given to us.” (NRSV, emphasis mine)

Maybe the chaos of our world today is simply to teach us to
endure that we may be anchored in the hope of Christ that
does not disappoint!

Here’s Hoping!
