I know it seems like a cliché, but each of you is uniquely created by God. Each of us has our own personality, our own talents, and our own gifts. But did you also know that you are unique for another reason if you are a Jesus follower? You are unique because you belong to a family, to a people, that is set apart by God himself.
1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
When we give our lives over to Jesus and allow him to continually transform us to be more like himself, we are called to live out a holy alternative to the world around us. The world around us is filled with chaos and a longing for something more. Guess what! We have that something more – it is Jesus! The verse from 1 Peter lets us know that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation and God’s special possession, but it is the second part that I love – that we may declare the praises of him who call you out of darkness and into his wonderful light. What great news – it is full of joy and life!
We are not to keep this to ourselves. The verse reminds us that we are a royal priesthood – meaning we all have the responsibility, in obedience, to share this light with others. We are to reach out to lost and broken people with the hope that we have.
Are you ready to live into this uniqueness as a citizen of God’s kingdom as we are called to? I pray that you will join me in doing so.
